Help Another Door youth shelter

Another Door offers emergency housing for up to 12 young adults ages 18-24. Private bedrooms, comfortable communal living spaces, 24 hour staffing and case management help residents feel safe, respected, and supported in their own career, educational and health goals as they work to find permanent housing. You can help by purchasing bedding, kitchen, hygiene and art supplies to help make Another Door feel like home.

Help Plover Place housing

Plover Place is a pilot micro-apartment complex for people who have experienced chronic homelessness. It offers small but comfortable private units with their own bathrooms, communal kitchen and meeting areas, laundry, and case management. The project was built by One Roof Housing and is operated by Salvation Army. Please help us stock the shelves as Plover Place gets ready to welcome residents to their new home.

Your Support Can...

When you donate to Stepping On Up, you help build a community where no one is left behind. Among other things, your generosity will:

  • Strengthen local collaboration by funding phone, internet, and staff salaries, enabling us to serve as a vital hub for 14 nonprofits and our county and city partners.
  • Inspire the next generation through a robust internship program that encourages talented students to stay engaged in our community after graduation.
  • Provide life-saving support for unsheltered neighbors by helping staff and supply the Warming Center, an overnight drop-in center that served over 800 people last season.
  • Expand shelter and housing opportunities by supporting the development and construction of new projects, creating safe and stable environments for those in need.
  • Amplify unheard voices by ensuring people experiencing homelessness are represented in policy-making and nonprofit leadership decisions.
  • Provide safety and support through the Safe Bay program, which offers showers, Wi-Fi, housing navigation, and security for individuals living in their vehicles.
  • Restore dignity for individuals and families through our volunteer-run laundry program, offering a small but impactful comfort during challenging times.

Your contribution is more than a donation—it's an investment in hope, dignity, and community. Together, we can create real change.

What we have accomplished so far

Responded to the urgent needs of people living on the streets by opening a safe storage facility, expanding hours and services at the Warming Center, maintaining hygiene facilities, and tripling the number of street outreach staff among our partner agencies

Leveraged local, state and federal resources to transform our homeless response system over the next three years, with partner agencies working together to add shelter beds, hygiene and laundry services, outreach, and new housing units.

Opened Safe Bay, an innovative program for individuals living in their vehicles that has inspired many other similar programs across the state and region

  • Brought more than $11 million to Duluth in federal and state funds for capital projects
  • Engaged neighbors and area businesses in meaningful conversations about housing development and the importance of lifting all boats
  • Built a pilot 24 unit housing project for people experiencing long term homelessness
  • Created a new shelter for young adults age 18-24, offering dignity and support to stop the cycle of chronic homelessness
  • .... and we're just getting started
